1. Overview & Commitment to Zero Lock-In

At BookInquiry ("we", "our", or "the Service"), accessible from bookinquiry.com/, we respect your fundamental right to intellectual privacy. Unlike conventional platforms that store reader reflections in proprietary centralized databases, BookInquiry is architected with a Zero Server Database paradigm.

2. Information We Collect and Process

We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal identity or private notes. The data interactions handled by BookInquiry include:

  • Local Browser Storage (LocalStorage): Used strictly on your device to persist reading logs, selected compass settings, and cached questions for offline or rapid loading. This data never leaves your browser unless you initiate cloud backup.
  • Google Drive Integration (Optional): When you authenticate via Google OAuth, we request the strictly limited https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope. This grants BookInquiry access only to the files and folders created directly by BookInquiry (the BookInquiry/ directory in your Google Drive). BookInquiry cannot view, access, edit, or delete any other files or folders in your Google Drive.
  • Search Inquiries: Book titles and authors typed into the search bar are queried against the public Open Library API to retrieve standard bibliographic metadata.

3. Cookies and Advertising (Google AdSense)

BookInquiry may display advertisements served by Google AdSense to sustain free operation.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites on the Internet.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to BookInquiry and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info.

4. Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID: G-K3PFHN6VW7) to collect aggregated, anonymized metrics such as page views, device types, and general geographical trends. This helps us ensure cross-browser compatibility and improve user experience. IP anonymization is enforced by default.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because we do not maintain a centralized user database, you have complete sovereignty over your data:

  • To erase local data, clear your browser's local storage and cache via browser settings.
  • To revoke Google Drive authorization, navigate to your Google Account Third-Party Permissions and remove BookInquiry at any time.
